SAINTS SPLIT TWIN BILL WITH WEST GEORGIA
Skeels hits team leading third home run

Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University took advantage of a home run, a double, and three RBI’s from Jessica Skeels to blow past West Georgia 9-2 in the opener, but fall in extra innings 3-1 in game two off a two run homer late by Paige Hanson.

West Georgia (9-7) got on the board first in the opening inning off a wild pitch by Andrea Moss that brought Celia Petty to the plate for a 1-0 lead. Two batters later Kim Weaver raced home on a groundout for a 2-0 advantage. The Saints came right back in their half of the first on a home run off the bat of Jessica Skeels. The ball sailed over the right field fence and plated Courtney McGuire to tie the game 2-2 after an inning of play.

In the second inning, North Georgia (10-2, 4-0) struck fire as two hits and an error loaded the bases for Brittany Cobb who sailed a liner over the left-fielders head for a bases clearing triple to give the home team a 5-2 lead. Cobb would race home on a wild pitch, and Skeels would add to her day with an RBI double to plate Shubert and the Saints led 7-2 after two innings.

The Fourth inning saw the Saints add two more runs to the lead. McGuire crossed home plate while Skeels swiped second off the Wolves pitcher, and an RBI single by Leslee Smith scored the second run of the inning and gave North Georgia a commanding 9-2 win in the opener.

Moss picked up the win and moves to 6-0 on the year as she allowed four hits and two unearned runs in 7 innings of work.

Chelsea Albertson is tagged with the loss as she went two innings, allowed five hits and seven earned runs.

In game two, a pitchers duel dominated until the top of the fourth when West Georgia struck for a run on a fielder’s choice bringing Adrienne Clay to the plate for a 1-0 lead.

After being shut out for five straight innings, North Georgia used fundamentals to tie the game. Propes laid down a bunt single, followed by sacrifice bunts from McGuire and Skeels to put Propes on third with two outs. Krista Bess followed with a clutch looping single to left field to plate Propes and lock the score at 1-1

After seven innings, a 1-1 tie brought on extra innings and the pitching duel still dominated. The tie was finally broken in the ninth when Wolves centerfielder Paige Hanson drilled a two-out pitch over the left field wall for a 3-1 lead. The Saints had a chance in their last at-bat with two on and one out, but back-to-back strikeouts from Megan Grimm and Page Raynor ended the threat and gave the Wolves a 3-1 win.

Kate Thompson went the distance and picks up the win for the Wolves as she tossed nine innings and gave up five hits and one run while striking out nine.

Moss gets the loss and falls to 6-1 on the year. She went two innings and gave up a hit and one earned run. Propes went seven innings while only allowing three hits and one run in a no-decision.
