NKU BLANKS NORTH GEORGIA TO SWEEP BOTH TOURNAMENT GAMES

Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University went cold at the plate and could not hold off Northern Kentucky University who ran past the Saints 6-0 during their fourth game of the Fire Mountain Classic.

North Georgia (24-19) threatened in the opening inning, but Brittany Cobb was thrown out while trying to score on a sacrifice fly from Lynsey Thompson. The out ended the first and left the game scoreless. In the bottom half of the inning, the Norse jumped out to an early lead with an RBI single by Sarah King to score Heather Cotner and take a 1-0 lead over the Saints.

NKU (28-14) tacked another run in the bottom of the third when Ricki Rothbauer singled to right center to plate Shatona Campbell and give the Norse a 2-0 lead.

The Norse added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Kara Lorenz to score Rachele Vogelpohl and extend the lead to 3-0 on North Georgia.

North Georgia used its half of the sixth inning to rally, but could not capitalize on a bases loaded one out situation and they came away empty handed still trailing 3-0. The bottom of the inning saw NKU string together three hits and push across three runs to take a 6-0 win.

The loss goes to Rachel Bridges who drops to 10-11 on the year as she allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings of work. Amanda Smith pitched a complete game shutout to improve to 15-6 on the year.
