NORTH GEORGIA SOFTBALL RELEASES 2006 SCHEDULE
Saints Say Aloha to Hawaii and Host NGCSU Tournament

Dahlonega, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State University softball team announced their 2006 schedule today by sixth year head coach Mike Davenport. The Saints will host eight double-headers and the NGCSU Softball Tournament this spring as well as traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii.

Last season, North Georgia finished fifth in the nation in the NAIA and made a run at the national championship in Decatur, Ala. The Saints finished with a 45-18 overall record in route to winning their fourth consecutive conference title with a 24-2 league record.

As North Georgia opens its first season at the NCAA Division II level, the Saints will face Belmont Abbey on February 5 for a 1:00 p.m. home double-header. North Georgia will face the University of West Georgia on the road on the 12th and then travel to USC Upstate on the 19th for their first Peach Belt Conference challenge. On the 28th, the Saints will host their first league double-header against Georgia College & State University.

March opens with a home double-headers against Anderson College on the 5th followed by a visit to Armstrong Atlantic State University on the 7th. The Saints will then fly to Hawaii for a set of games on the 14th, 17th, and 18th against Chminade University, Hawaii-Pacific University, and BYU-Hawaii. North Georgia returns home to play Augusta State University on the road on March 23 before taking on UNC Pembroke at home on the 25th. The Saints will then travel to Anderson on the 28th and make a quick stop in Greenwood, S.C. for a double-header against Lander University on the 29th.

USC Aiken comes to town on April 2 before the Saints travel to Columbus, Ga. to face the Lady Cougars on the 5th. On April 8, North Georgia welcomes Francis Marion University for a PBC match-up and then hosts Queens College on the 9th and West Georgia on the 12th. The Saints will close out the regular season with the NGCSU Tournament on the 14th and 15th. Northern Kentucky and Valdosta State will make the trip to Dahlonega to participate in the tournament.

North Georgia returns 13 members from last season's squad that batted .332 as a team and out-scored opponents 367-124. The pitching staff returns two of three starters that had a combined ERA of 1.87 and 424 strikeouts.
