#10 SAINTS TAKE CARE OF LADY LIONS IN SOFTBALL DOUBLE HEADER

Dahlonega, Ga. – Jumping out early on Emmanuel College, 10th ranked North Georgia College & State University cruised past EC 8-0 and 9-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference softball double header.

Game 1

The Saints (24-12, 12-1) scored nine runs off of eight hits and three Lady Lions (23-18, 7-12) errors. Freshman center fielder Brittney Cobb (Oxford, Ga.) led the game off with a walk and later scored with junior first baseman Lara Seamon (Richfield Springs, N.Y.) off of a two RBI single by senior second baseman Annie Ball (Marietta, Ga.) in the first inning.

North Georgia scored a single run in the third inning to make the score 3-0. In the fourth inning, a two RBI single by junior shortstop Lynsey Thompson (Dacula, Ga.) made the score 5-0. Thompson later scored after sophomore designated player Bronwyn Miller (Woodstock, Ga.) hit a RBI single to make the game 6-0. The Saints went on to score three more runs in the inning and seal the 9-0 victory.

Senior starter Beth Willis (Williamson, Ga.) pitched five shut out inning and struck out 11 batters to improve her record to 15-4 this season. Freshman starting pitcher Amanda Stillwell (Snellville, Ga.) took the loss after going four innings and allowing seven earned runs and striking out three.

Game 2

Cobb led off the second game with a free pass to first and later scored as North Georgia won the second game 8-0. Thompson also scored in the first inning after drawing a walk to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

The Saints put five runs on the board off of three hits and two EC errors in the third inning. Ball scored the first run of the inning after reaching on an error followed by Miller who touched home off of a RBI single from sophomore catcher Brooke Kesler (Colbert, Ga.). Cobb cleared the bases with a three run home run the hard way. After knocking the ball to deep left center, the speedy freshman streaked home for an in the park homer.

North Georgia closes out the game in the fourth inning after Thompson scored the eighth run of the game after reaching base on a walk. Freshman starting pitcher Rachel Bridges (Lexington, Ga.) limited the Lady Lions to only four hits in the game and striking out five batters. Stillwell took the loss in the second game after allowing two earned runs off of one hit.

The Saints play again this Wednesday at home as they take on Georgia Southwestern State University at 4:00 p.m. EC will take to the field on Wednesday as well at Judson for a double header at 3:00 p.m.
