SAINTS SWEEP THIRD STRAIGHT CONFERENCE DOUBLE HEADER

Gainesville, Ga. – Pounding out 32 hits for 23 runs in the double header, 10th ranked North Georgia College & State University defeated Brenau University yesterday afternoon in Southern States Athletic Conference softball action.

Game 1

Senior starting pitcher Beth Willis (Williamson, Ga.) picked up her 14th win of the season and sophomore designated player Bronwyn Miller (Woodstock, Ga.) went four-for-four from the plate with two runs and two RBI's to help lead the Saints to a 7-0 victory in the first game.

North Georgia picked up a run in the second and third inning before scoring five runs in the fourth. After posting two quick outs in the fourth inning, the Saints rallied to score three runs off of an error. Miller then stepped up and blasted a two run homer to put North Georgia up 7-0.

Willis went seven strong innings and allowed only two hits and struck out nine batters. Freshman starter Nicole Clay (Gainesville, Ga.) took the loss after going seven innings and allowing six earned runs off of 14 hits.

Game 2

The Saints delivered the knockout blow early to the Lady Tigers as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the second innings. North Georgia's offense once again exploded in the fourth inning and scored eight runs. Junior shortstop Lynsey Thompson (Dacula, Ga.) went two-for-three with four RBI's and one run scored and freshman right fielder Candace Shubert (Colbert, Ga.) accounted for six of the Saints runs off of four RBI's and two runs.

Freshman starting pitcher Rachel Bridges (Lexington, Ga.) pitched five strong innings and allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out six batters. Clay once again took the loss after throwing five innings and allowing 14 earned runs off of 18 hits.

The Saints have won nine of their last 10 SSAC games and now have an overall record of 23-10 and 11-1 in conference. BU drops to 8-12 overall and 6-12 in the conference.

North Georgia takes to the field again this Saturday as they host fourth ranked Thomas University for a 1:00 p.m. double header.
