SAINTS SOFTBALL RANKED 11TH IN PRESEASON NAIA POLL
Dahlonega, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State University softball team is ranked 11th in the preseason coaches poll released today by the NAIA.
Under the direction of fifth year head coach Mike Davenport, the Saints are coming off one of their most productive season last spring as they finished the season ranked 10 th in the nation with a 48-13 overall record a visit to the 2004 NAIA National Tournament. North Georgia has also won three straight conference championships and is picked to win the Southern States Athletic Conference title this season. The Saints received 170 points in the preseason poll.
At the top of the poll is 2004 National Champion Thomas University with 323 total points and 12 of 13 possible first place votes. North Georgia will travel to Thomasville on February 17 and will host the Night Owls on April 2. Simon Fraser took second place with 305 points and Oklahoma City rounded out the top-3 with 304 points and one first place vote.
Lee is ranked 17th and is the only other SSAC team to be listed in the poll. The Lady Flames finished last season ranked 16 th with a 30-24 overall record.
The Saints season begins next Wednesday as North Georgia host Claflin University at 1:00 p.m. for a double header at the NGCSU Softball Complex.
