NGCSU SOFTBALL COACH MIKE DAVENPORT WINS 200TH CAREER GAME

Dahlonega, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University head softball coach Mike Davenport reached a career milestone this past weekend as he won his 200th career game as a head coach.

With a 4-1 win over Shorter College Friday evening at the NGCSU Softball Complex, Davenport and the ninth ranked Saints picked up their 34th win of the season and the 200th of his career.

Currently in his fifth season leading the North Georgia squad, Davenport now has an overall career record of 202-71 after a sweep over Shorter College on Saturday. The win also gave the Saints their fourth consecutive regular season conference championship and their fifth in six years.

Under Davenport's leadership, the Saints softball program has dominated the conference over the last four years. After leading North Georgia to the NAIA Region XIII Tournament in 2002, Davenport was named GACC Coach of the Year. In 2003, he led the team to the region tournament for the second straight year and was named conference Coach of the Year and 2003 GACC Female Coach of the Year. This past season, Davenport led the Saints to their first NAIA National Tournament and a 48-13 overall record.

Davenport joins two other NGCSU coaches who have reached career milestones this season. In January, head men's basketball coach Chris Faulkner won his 100th career game and in February head baseball coach Tom Cantrell won his 400th career game.

The Saints are 36-13 this season and 24-2 in the SSAC conference. With a number one seed in the conference tournament, North Georgia looks to claim its third consecutive conference tournament championship. The tournament begins on Thursday at Alto Park in Rome, Ga.
