NGSCU FARES WELL IN ITA SMALL COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lumezeanu and Carballel reach quarterfinals for men,
Caitie Murphy and Katherine Harrison in doubles

Barton, NC– North Georgia College & State University fared well in their opening fall tournament in the 2006 Fall Season.  The two teams traveled to Barton to play in the ITA Small College Championships.

In “A” Draw action, Jacob Eastwood lost his opening match to the sixth-seeded David Butler of Francis Marion 6-0, 6-1.  He won one round in the back draw, defeating Cowan’s Dieso Timoteo 6-2, 6-1 before falling to Alek Moiski 7-6, 5-7, 1-0.

In “B” Draw action, Vlad Lumezeanu and Gustavo Carballal reached the quarterfinals of the back draw of the consolation.  After losing their opening matches, the duo each won two matches in the back draw with both players winning their matches in straight sets.

Sam Moore won his opening match in the main draw, defeating Jacob Gregory of Erskine 6-2, 6-1.  He fell in the second round to Fred Mendez from Augusta State 6-2, 6-4.

Alex Rodas won his first round match in the main draw against Chris Knowles from Pfeiffer 7-6, 6-3.  He fell in the second round to Jonathan O’Rourke of Queen’s 6-0, 6-0.

Carballal and Moore defeated Sam Johnston and Andrew Thompson from Brevard, 8-2, in first-round action of the men’s “B” doubles.  Then lost the second-round match to Paul Van Rensbeurg and Nemanja Djuric from Columbus State, 1-8.

In “A” Draw action for them women, Katherine Harrsion lost her opening round match to Erin Reynolds from Columbus State 6-4, 6-0.  She won her next match against Jessica McDonald from Anderson 6-3, 6-2.  After receiving a bye, she won a walk-over (injury) over Rachel Lemar from Coker.  She then lost to Natalie Dies 6-3, 6-3.

In “B” Draw, Mallory Perloff defeated Rhonda Cooper from UNC Pembroke 1-6, 6-4, 1-0.  She then lost to Krista Cedeno from Barton College 6-0, 6-1.  Jenni Bridges defeated Brittany Hall from UNC Pembroke 6-2, 6-0.  She then lost to Vivian Neuenschanander 6-0, 6-0.

In “A” Draw doubles, Catie Murphy and Harrison lost their opening round match to Jessica McDonald and Melena Goncalven from Anderson, 8-5.  They were able to rebound against Ashley Pace and Andrea Santos from Coker, 8-3, before receiving a bye.  They then lost to Mayra Kaefer and Elly Toth of USC Aiken, 8-5, in the quarterfinals of the back draw.
