SAINTS FALL TO MONTEVALLO AT HOME
Saints fall behind early, unable to come back
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University fell behind early and was unable to overcome the early deficit, falling to Montevallo 6-0 in non-conference action here Wednesday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped ahead early, scoring two goals before the 20th minute. Jonathan Maloney scored in the 13th minute, taking a pass from John Markey and Glenn Murphy. Murphy then added the second goal in the 18th minute when he took a feed from Andy Hall on a free kick from about 25 yards out.
Hall gave Montevallo a 3-0 lead in the 22nd minute when he took a cross from the right side of the foot of Murphy and beat North Georgia goalkeeper Brandon Kirksey.
The lead stayed that way until the 25th minute when John Markey took a cross from the left side and went far post for the 4-0 lead. The pass came off the foot of Maloney and Murphy.
The Falcons added a pair of goals in the second half, first off the foot of Takashi Hiranaka took a cross and beat Kirksey in a one-on-one opportunity. The pass came from Joe Gross and Hall in the 66th minute. The final goal came when Gross one-timed a double assist from Chris Castell and James Steer in the 68th minute.
Montevallo outshot North Georgia (4-9-1, 2-3 PBC) 23-9, with Kirksey making eight saves.
North Georgia returns to action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., hosting Anderson University.
