NORTH GEORGIA PICKS UP PEACH BELT VICTORY
Saints score two in each half for victory
Americus, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University scored a pair of goals in each half, holding on for a 4-1 victory over Georgia Southwestern in Peach Belt Conference action on Wednesday evening.
The Saints got on the board in the first half when Ryan Whittington scored his fourth goal of the season in the 23rd minute. He took a pass from Matthew Powell and put it past Georgia Southwestern (1-6-0, 0-4 PBC) goalkeeper Conrad Brown.
They struck again in the 44th minute when Brent Staley headed a Powell free kick into the net for a 2-0 halftime lead.
Whittington struck again in the 57th minute, taking a pass from Joey Rector on the left side and hammering it by Brown, for a 3-0 North Georgia lead.
The Saints almost added a fourth when Jeremy Bouasy rocketed a shot towards the net, only to have Brown knock it down and scurry to the line to save it just one minute after Whittington's second goal.
Georgia Southwestern got on the board when Etchu Tabe scored his seventh goal of the season, taking a pass from Haile Eliyas and put it past Saints' goalkeeper Vince Neal in the 60th minute to trim the lead to 3-1.
Aaron Snyder put North Georgia on the board in the 64th minute, taking a pass from Whittington and beating Brown and a Georgia Southwestern defender to the ball. The ball deflected off of Brown and found the back of the net for a 4-1 lead.
The Saints were not finished in the 79th minute, nearly missing another golden opportunity when Whittington took a feed from Santiago Pinzon. He hit the ball over the keeper's head and hit the crossbar. The Saints kept the pressure on, missing another opportunity when Bouasy missed a shot in the 81st minute and Whittington another miss in the 82nd minute.
North Georgia outshot Georgia Southwestern 31-7.
The day was complete when a ball was kicked out of bounds in the 80th minute, prompting a first-time occurance. The ball hit the road the same time a Ford Explorer was coming down the street on the Georgia Southwestern campus, running over the ball and popping it.
North Georgia (3-6-0, 1-1 PBC) returns to action Saturday, hosting UNC Pembroke in Peach Belt Conference Action.
