SAINTS PICK UP PEACH BELT VICTORY
Saints record first shutout of season

FLORENCE, SC – Freshman Stan Soulen scored a first-half goal and senior Jeremy Bouasy added a second-half tally to lead North Georgia College & State University to a 2-0 win over Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer action.

The Saints, playing without their leading scorer Ryan Whittington and under an interim head coach (first match), improve to 4-7-1 overall and 2-2 in the PBC.  Francis Marion (3-6-1, 1-2-1) suffers its third consecutive shutout.

Soulen’s goal came at the 8:01 mark when he scored from 10 yards out.  Bouasy started the play with a shot that bounced off the right goalpost.  Soulen corralled the rebound and scored into the lower left corner.  FMU nearly evened the score four minutes later, but Ryan Dhuet’s shot was headed out of the goal by a North Georgia defender.

Bouasy registered his seventh goal of the season in the 87th minute on a short shot in the box.

North Georgia out shot the Patriots 11-8 and led in corner kicks 4-3.  Saints goalkeeper Brandon Kirksey recorded five saves en route to his first shutout of the year.

FMU keeper Nick Krywyj made three saves in the loss.

FMU will play host to Queens University of Charlotte, Wednesday at 4 p.m., while North Georgia plays at USC Aiken, next Saturday at 7 p.m.
