The Saints opened up the match strong and pushed the ball forward continually looking for a scoring opportunity. North Georgia out-shot MC 10-7 in the match, but only had two shots on goal in 90 minutes of play. Senior midfielder Jonathan Cueva and junior midfielder Wenshel St. Hilaire each had a shot on goal but were unable to connect.
The score remained tied for most of the first half until sophomore midfielder Kyle Wilcox cut through the Saints defense to score the first goal of the match and give the Buffaloes a 1-0 lead. MC would not give up the lead for the remainder of the game as the defense held strong and junior goalkeeper Jordan Fode made two saves for the shutout.
The Saints will play again this weekend as they face their first Peach Belt Conference challenge on Saturday. North Georgia travels to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate at 7:00 p.m. The Buffaloes will take to the field against Covenant College on Saturday as well at 1:00 p.m. on the road. |
