EARLY GOAL LIFTS CLAYTON STATE TO 1-0 VICTORY
OVER NORTH GEORGIA
Morrow, Ga. - The Clayton State men's soccer team scored early and held on to pull out a 1-0 victory over North Georgia Saturday in semifinals of the 2005 Peach Belt Conference Championships at Clayton State's Laker Field.
The Lakers' Jarrid Nicholson scored the game winner in the 19 th minute of the match with a shot from five yards out, beating North Georgia keeper Vince Neal. The play was set-up on a cross by Tonny Madegwa, followed by a quick flick from Juan Trujillo.
With the win, the ninth-ranked Lakers advanced to the 2005 Peach Belt Tournament Championship game on Sunday. Clayton State, the 2005 PBC regular season champions, will face 18th -ranked USC Upstate who also won in its semifinal contest, defeating Francis Marion 3-0. The win improves the Lakers to 12-3-4 on the season, while North Georgia season comes to close with a 10-6-2 record.
In Saturday's match, Clayton State held a 16-12 shot advantage and keeper Heath Padgett finished with six saves, recording his sixth shutout of the season. North Georgia's Neal had eight saves for the Saints.
