NORTH GEORGIA SPOILS SENIOR DAY FOR CHARGERS Huntsville, Ala. - Bidding farewell to six seniors on “Senior Day”, the Alabama-Huntsville men's soccer squad put up a good fight against North Georgia but came up short falling 2-1 on Friday afternoon at Charger Field.
In a very evenly matched contest it was the Saints who took advantage of their key scoring opportunities. It was the Chargers that drew first blood however when senior captain Sam Pettit found freshman forward Jarad Peltier and he deposited his eighth goal of the season for the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.
The Saints quickly evened the score at one in the 25th minute when Ciro Pelliccia took advantage of a UAH defensive turnover and made the Chargers pay. The two squads then battled toe-to-toe for the next 55 minutes until North Georgia dealt the Chargers a crushing blow in the 82nd minute when Pelliccia found Wenshel St. Hilaire for the game winning goal.
The loss drops UAH's record to 5-10-0 while NGCSU improves to 8-5-2. Along with Pettit, fellow Charger seniors Fernando Adorni, Daniel Disilvestro, Andrew Henninger, Fernando Pingitore and Joel Truitt took the field for their last time.
UAH continues its season on Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Delta State on West Georgia's home field in Carrollton, Ga., as a make up for the game against the Statesmen that was rained out earlier in the season.
