ALVAREZ SELECTED TO NSCAA ALL-SOUTHEAST REGION TEAM
Skillman, N.J. – Senior midfielder Rene Alvarez was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Southeast Region team today. He becomes the first North Georgia College & State University student-athlete to receive an All-Region honor since the school joined the Peach Belt Conference and NCAA this fall.
Alvarez, a 5-8 midfielder from Dahlonega, Ga., led the Saints in points (22), goals (8), and assists (6) this season and was ranked in the top-10 in the conference in points, goals, and assists. His NSCAA All-Region honor adds another accolade to his stellar senior year. He was selected to the PBC All-Conference team and All-Tournament team earlier this season. On October 4, he was chosen as PBC “Player of the Week” and was also selected to the second team ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District squad. Alvarez led the Saints to a 23-11-4 overall record the past two seasons and the programs first back-to-back winning seasons.
The PBC dominated the Southeast Region team with 13 All-Region selections. Clayton State University led all conference schools with four selections while UNC Pembroke placed three on the first team. USC Upstate had three student-athletes recognized while Lander and Francis Marion each had one.
