NORTH GEORGIA TOPS ANDERSON 3-1 IN PRESEASON
MEN'S SOCCER ACTION

Dahlonega, Ga. - The Saints put on a good preseason show as they held the Trojans scoreless until the 85th minute. Three NGCSU players scored goals to lead the Saints to an impressive 3-1 win in preseason action at the Allen Soccer Complex in Gainesville.

Senior forward Calvin Smith (Gainesville, Ga.) scored the first goal of the match off of an assist from junior forward Ciro Pellicia (Conyers, Ga.) in the 16th minute to give NGCSU a 1-0 lead in the first half. Five minutes later midfielder Rene Alvarez (Dahlonega, Ga.) blasted a penalty kick past Anderson's junior goalkeeper Jack Ward (Easley, S.C.) to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage.

The second half was all dominated by defense on both sides of the ball. Both the Trojans and the Saints were held to only four shots in the second half. NGCSU sophomore goalkeeper Vince Neal (Athens, Ga.) made two strong saves in the first half. Anderson's lone goal came in the 85th minute when junior forward Clint Gillis (Columbus, OH) shot a penalty kick just out of the reach of freshman goalkeeper Chapin LaChance (Dahlonega, Ga.). Junior midfielder Drew Prentice (Young Harris, Ga.) scored the final goal for the Saints when he blasted a shot into the net from the top of the box.

The Trojans next match will be on September 1 at 7:00 pm as they head to Coastal Carolina. The Saints begin their regular season this Thursday as they play their home opener at the Allen Soccer Complex. NGCSU will host Union College at 7:00 pm.
