FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAINTS FALL TO FLORIDA GULF COAST
North Georgia to play Georgia Southwestern in consolation game

FORT MYERS, Fla. - (AP) North Georgia College & State University had their five-game winning streak halted in the semifinals of the DII NIT, falling to Florida Gulf Coast 99-62.

The Eagles put this game away early with an 8-0 run to start things off. Adam Liddell scored four points in the opening run. Up 18-11, the Eagles then went on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a Rob Quaintance three. The Eagles continued to pull away and built a 51-30 halftime lead. The Eagles were on fire in the first half, shooting 50% from the floor and posting a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe.

With the outcome never in doubt in the second half, the biggest mystery of the game would be weather FGCU missed a free-throw. The team connected on its first 24 charity shots before finally missing. FGCU finished the night 27-for-28 from the line, setting a new school record for free throw percentage in a game at 96.4 percent for the game.

Jay Anderson and Xavier Trice scored 16 points apiece for the visitors, who had trouble getting things going all night. A suffocating FGCU defense held the Saints to 31.7 percent from the floor while forcing 20 turnovers.

Neptune paced the Eagles with 16 points, going 7-for-10 and adding five steals. Landon Adler added his seventh double-double of the year with 15 points and 10 boards. Liddell, Beau Bauer and Casey Wohlleb each reached double digits in the scoring column for the Eagles in the game.

FGCU will be in action again tomorrow night in the championship game of the National Independent Tournament when they host Central State (22-4) who advanced earlier in the day by knocking off Georgia Southwestern State 72-60. Meanwhile, North Georgia returns to action tomorrow afternoon against Georgia Southwestern in the consolation game of the tournament.
