PEACH BELT CONFERENCE RELEASES ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Saints' Jay Anderson named to team

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference has announced the 12-member 2006-07 men’s All-Conference basketball team. Augusta State University becomes the first PBC team to sweep all three of the major awards since Kennesaw State in 2002-03 as Tyrekus “AJ” Bowman was named the Player of the Year, Ben Madgen the Freshman of the Year and Dip Metress the Coach of the Year.

Bowman becomes the fifth Jaguar to be named the PBC Player of the Year. The junior from Tignall, Ga., leads the PBC and is ranked 35th nationally in scoring with 20.4 points per game. He is also ranked in the PBC top 10 in rebounding, field goal percentage, steals and blocks. The three-time PBC player of the week has six double-doubles so far this season.

Ben Madgen becomes the fifth Augusta State player to be named the PBC Freshman of the Year. The freshman from Williamstown, Australia, started in 26 games for the Jaguars in 2006-07 and was the second-leading scorer on the team with 15.7 points per game, eighth-best in the PBC. One of the best pure shooters in the league, Madgen was also ranked second in the PBC in three-point percentage and third in free-throw percentage.

Dip Metress takes home his first Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year award in his third season at the helm of the Jaguars. The 2006-07 has been one of the most successful the program has ever had, winning their second PBC Championship and first by themselves. With a 22-5 overall record and 14-2 conference mark, the Jaguars earned their first national ranking in 30 years and moved up to as high as eighth in the nation this season.

The 2006-07 All-Conference team is listed below as voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. All winners will be presented the plaques before their opening game of the 2007 Tournament. North Georgia and Georgia Southwestern award winners will be recognized during the tournament at a time to be announced.
