UNCP MEN'S HOOPS FALLS TO NORTH GEORGIA 101-77

Pembroke, NCMatt Causey netted 24 points, while brother, Mark, tallied a double-double with 14 points and ten boards to lead North Georgia to a 101-77 win over UNC Pembroke on Homecoming in Peach Belt men’s basketball action late Saturday afternoon in the Jones Center.

With the win, NGCSU moves to 12-8 on the year and 8-6 in conference action, while the Braves fall to 4-15 and 1-11 in league play.

Following two Scooter Lawrence free throws that cut the Braves’ deficit to six, 34-28, with only five minutes remaining until halftime, North Georgia pulled away and finished the first period on a 21-4 run giving them a 55-32 advantage at the break.

The margin proved to be too much for UNCP to surmount in the second half even though the Braves played the Saints more evenly in the second period.

Joining the Causey brothers in double-figures for North Georgia were Mark Trust, Robert Shoupes and Greg Dickinson, who tallied 13, 12 and 11, respectively. Chipping in seven boards each were Matt Causey, Anthony Rowe and Shoupes. Mark Causey also had seven assists and six steals, while brother Matt tallied eight assists.

Leading the Braves offensively was Chris Campbell, who had 11 points and Jarrell Hunter, who tallied an even ten. On the glass, Jabarr Adams who pulled down six rebounds paced UNCP.

On the day, North Georgia hit 33 of 57 shots from the floor for a shooting percentage of 57.9%, while also draining 13 of 24 (54.2%) from behind the arc. The Braves however, did not fair so well hitting only 26 of 67 (38.8%) field goals and five of 23 (21.7%) three-pointers. Both squads shot decent from the charity stripe as the Saints made 13 of 24 (64.7%) and the Braves drained 20 of 29 (69%).

Up next for UNCP is a road game at PBC rival Francis Marion on Monday, February 6, at 7:30 pm, while North Georgia will host Lander on Wednesday, February 8, 7:30 pm
