BOBCATS OUTLAST SAINTS 91-84

Milledgeville, Ga. - Bryan Harrison scored 23 points, while Jeremy Mayweather posted his eighth double-double of the year with 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead Georgia College & State University to a 91-84 victory over North Georgia College & State University Saturday night in men’s basketball action at the Centennial Center.

GC&SU (18-6, 15-3 PBC) has won seven straight and holds on to first place in the Peach Belt Conference, while North Georgia (14-10, 10-8 PBC) drops its second straight.

North Georgia used an 8-0 run to build an early 19-11 lead, but GC&SU battled back with a 10-2 run of its own to knot the game up at 21-all. The Saints went into the locker room with a 42-41 lead behind 14 points from Mark Causey. Mayweather led GC&SU at the break with 10 points. North Georgia shot 41% (16-39) from the floor in the first half, while GC&SU shot 40.5% (15-37).

North Georgia jumped out of the gates of the second half with an 8-2 run, but GC&SU finally took command with a 17-4 run midway through the frame to build a 10 point lead at 74-64. The Saints would continue to battle back, but the Bobcats hit six straight free throws when it counted with less than a minute to play to seal the victory. North Georgia shot 54.5% (18-33) from the floor in the second half, while GC&SU shot 56% (15-27).

Harrison went 8-for-11 from the floor, including 5-for-5 from three point range to lead all scorers with 23 points. In addition to Mayweather’s double-double, Aaron Clark also reached double figures with 15 points for the Bobcats. Mark Causey led North Georgia with 22 points, while Matt Causey added 18, and Anthony Rowe scored 17.

GC&SU travels to Savannah on Monday to take on Armstrong Atlantic State University at 7:30 p.m. The Saints play their final home game of the season on Wednesday against Clayton State Univeristy at 7:30 p.m.
