Causey averaged 23.1 points per game this season and led the Saints to their best finish in almost ten years. He broke the school's 30-year old single season scoring record in the final game of the season after scoring 34 points against Faulkner University. Causey also broke the school's single season assists record this year and has a total of 214 so far this season. In conference, Causey's numbers jumped to 24.9 points per game and 7.5 assists per game along with 4.5 rebounds per game. He scored a career high 43 points with 12 assists in North Georgia's 109-98 win over Southern Wesleyan University on February 19. Causey was named SSAC and NAIA Player of the Week for the week of January 24 this season as well. He is currently second in the nation in assists and third in the nation in scoring while leading the SSAC in both categories.
Causey was also selected to the first team All-Conference along with last season's Newcomer of the Year , senior guard Bryce Brickhouse (Gainesville, Ga.). Brickhouse was the second leading scorer on the team with 16.5 points per game and three pointers made.
Junior guard Mark Causey (Gainesville, Ga.) was named to the second team All-Conference as well as the All-Academic Team. Causey leads the team in three-point percentage at 40.5% and is third on the team in scoring. Brother Matt was also selected to the All-Academic Team along with sophomore forward Dustin David (Nicholson, Ga.). David returned from a mid-season ankle injury and is ranked in the top-five of five different statistical categories on the team.
North Georgia went from a 13-20 overall record and a 3-15 mark at the bottom of the conference last season to being ranked in the top-25 in the NAIA for six weeks this season, second place in the SSAC, a 22-9 overall record, 16-6 record in the conference, and a possible bid to the NAIA National Tournament in mid March. |
