SAINTS FALL FROM TOP-25 IN FINAL POLL OF THE SEASON
Dahlonega, Ga. – After being in the top-25 for six straight weeks, the North Georgia College & State University men's basketball team dropped out of the national rankings in the final poll leading up to the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament and the NAIA National Tournament.
The Saints had climbed to as high as 20th in the nation for the week of January 25 and were ranked 25th last in last week's poll. A loss on the road to Berry last week and a win on the road against Brewton-Parker gave North Georgia its third straight week with a split record. With the voting for the poll done on Monday before the Saints victory over Faulkner, three teams were able to vault over North Georgia.
One of those three teams is Georgia Southwestern, who is riding a 10 game winning streak and jumped from the bottom of the Southern States Athletic Conference to third place behind the Saints in the final standings. With a loss last week, Southern Polytechnic, who will host the SSAC Tournament, fell out of first place again and finished second in the final poll.
North Georgia will look to sweep the conference tournament this week as they take on Auburn University Montgomery in the first round tomorrow night in Marietta. If the Hornets win the tournament, the Saints will receive an automatic bid to the National Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri.
