NORTH GEORGIA FALLS 3-4 TO FALCONS
Rob Flanigan blasts second homer of season

Box Score

DAHLONEGA, GA – The 20th-ranked Saints came back late, but fell a run short in a 3-4 defeat at the hands of Pfeiffer University here Friday evening in non-conference action.

North Georgia drops to 2-2 on the season, while Pfeiffer improves to a 4-1 with the win.

After four scoreless innings, Hayes Henson put the Falcons on top in the fifth with a lead-off solo shot just over the 390 sign in center for a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons would add a pair of runs in the seventh as well with a single by Eric Shoemaker to bring Zack Pou home for a 2-0 lead. An infield miscue led to the second run of the inning as Pfeiffer took a 3-0 lead.

North Georgia had a chance in the bottom of the seventh with two-out and two-on for Davy Wallach who ran the count full before swinging through a fastball to end the inning and strand a pair of runners.

Pfeiffer added another run in the eighth and threatened to break the game open, but Head Coach Tom Cantrell called on Caleb Copeland from the pen who pulled the Saints out of a bases loaded one-out situation to hold the Pfeiffer lead to four.

In the bottom half of the inning, Craig Brisson and Andre Airich led off with a pair of singles to bring Rob Flanigan to the plate who did not disappoint. Flanigan ran the count full before sending a deep fly to right-center and clearing the fence to put a three spot on the board and bring the Saints to within a run at 3-4.

The Falcons sent Andrew Oliver to the mound in the ninth to strike out the side give Pfeiffer a 4-3 series opening win.

Chris Curtis (1-1) went 6.1 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out a season-high eight batters.

Jonathan McDaniel picked up the win in 7.0 inning of work. McDaniel allowed nine hits while also striking out nine North Georgia batters.

North Georgia (2-1) will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. for game two of the three game series against Pfeiffer Univerisity.
