North Georgia wins fifth straight
Box Score
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College & State University continued one of the hottest streaks in the nation Sunday afternoon, taking down Georgia Southwestern State University 4-0, backed by a complete-game shutout to give the Saints a three-games series sweep in Peach Belt Conference action.
North Georgia has won five straight games and improves to 32-17 overall and 16-11 in PBC play while the Hurricanes fall to 15-31 on the season and 6-18 in conference play.
James Wiley (4-3) picked up the win with a five-hit complete-game shutout. Wiley struck out six and walked three in the series finale.
The Saints jumped on the board in the fourth inning as Josh Tate sent a blast to left field, clearing the fence for a 1-0 North Georgia lead. After the long ball, Southwestern hit three straight batters to load the bases and Davy Wallach coaxed a walk to force home a run and make it a 2-0 lead.
North Georgia would add two more runs in the sixth inning on a Rob Flanigan bases-loaded single up the middle to make it 4-0, a score that would hold true to the final out.
Smith (0-4) suffered the loss for GSW, lasting three and one-third innings and allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out three and hitting three batters.
North Georgia (32-17, 16-11 PBC) returns to action on Tuesday, April 22, hosting the Wolves of West Georgia at 4:00 p.m.
