North Georgia looking for series sweep tomorrow afternoon
Game 1 | Game 2
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College & State University scored 25 runs on as many hits, including four home runs, to take game one 25-11, and played comeback kids in the nightcap to take a 9-8 win in 11 innings as the Saints keep a blistering pace that has seen them win 13 of their last 14 games.
After a wild pair of games, the Saints improve to 31-17 overall and 15-11 in the PBC, while Georgia Southwestern falls to 15-31 on the year and 6-17 in league play.
In game two, North Georgia overcame a three run deficit in the seventh to force extra innings where they came back from two down in the tenth to finally rally and win in the eleventh inning. Daniel Petitti sealed the victory with a double to left field, sending Ross Book racing home from first, just sliding under the tag to put a lid on a wild day at the baseball complex.
The Hurricanes were led by Trey Reeves who belted a three-run homer in the third inning. Patrick McCarthy had a pair of hits, while Noble Coley added three base knocks including an RBI and run scored.
The Saints had four players with multiple hits, including Rob Flanigan and Andre Airich who each recorded three hits. Flanigan also added his team-best 18th home run, while Logan Sharrett and Petitti each put up two hits.
In game one, North Georgia recorded a season-best 25 runs on as many hits. Airich had the biggest game of his career, pounding out five hits and driving in seven runs while scoring three times, including a grand slam in the opening inning to cap an eight-run first. Craig Brisson also added five hits and four runs scored, while seven other players contributed multiple hits.
The Saints notched back-to-back-to-back home runs in the second inning as Petitti, Anders Oster, and Brisson all homered as part of a six-run second inning. North Georgia scored all 25 runs in five innings as they rounded out the scoring with a four run eighth inning as Kevin Morrison and Oster recorded RBI hits to give the Saints a 25-11 win.
Even though the Canes were outscored by 14 runs, they put 11 runs of their own on the board in the game one loss. Seven players added two hits to lead GSW at the plate. Byron Haynes had the big blow, a three run homer to left field in the fifth inning to put a lid on the five-run inning.
Nine pitchers entered the game for the two teams as Chris Curtis (7-2) picked up the win in five innings of work.
North Georgia (31-17, 15-11 PBC) will look to sweep the three-game series and take their last regular season conference game of the season as the two teams face off again Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
