SAINTS HANDLE WOLVES 7-5
Andre Airich picks up his fifth home run in win
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – North Georgia College & State University broke out for five runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and capture a 7-5 win over West Georgia here Tuesday afternoon. Andre Airich led the way at the plate with two hits including his fifth home run of the season as he drove in the Saints first and last runs of the day.
West Georgia took advantage of a hit batter and throwing error to score the first run of the game as AJ Renfrow raced home on a groundout to make it a 1-0 game. The Saints came right back in the bottom half of the inning as Airich doubled to right-center to bring Craig Brisson home and tie the game 1-1.
The contest stayed tied at 1-1 until Bradley Abell led off the fourth inning drilled a fastball by Zack Black over the let field fence to the Wolves the lead once again.
North Georgia erupted in the sixth inning to take their first lead of the game on a sacrifice fly to right by Justin Rickett tied the game and a single through the left side by Creston Warner scored Airich and Saints led 3-2. The Saints would bring three more runs home on a bases clearing double by Kevin Morrison to extend the lead to four at 6-2 after six innings. Airich added to his big day in the seventh with a two-out solo home run to left to add an insurance run and make it a 7-2 game.
The Wolves would make it a 7-5 game in the ninth as Renfrow hit a three-run homer, just clearing the right field fence, to clear the bases.
Don Brice (5-2) got the win in relief as he went two innings allowing three hits and no runs. Josh Evans picked up the loss in five 1/3 innings giving up five runs on four hits.
North Georgia (28-20, 12-12 PBC) returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 25, as they host North Greenville at 8 pm.
