SAINTS BLAST WEST GEORGIA 12-2
North Georgia uses nine run fifth to run away

Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University exploded for the biggest inning of the year in the top of the fifth inning, exploding for nine runs en route to an 12-2 victory over the University of West Georgia in a non-conference baseball game here Wednesday evening.

Leading 2-0, the Saints broke the game open in the fifth inning with nine runs.  The inning started on a one-out double by Andre Airich followed by a walk from Josh Tate. Morrison drove in the first run of the inning on an infield single, and Justin Rickett continued his hot streak with a roller up the middle to plate Tate. Oster kept the inning going as he doubled home Rickett and Morrison to take a 7-0 lead. Following a West Georgia pitching change, Creston Warner singled home Oster and Airich followed with his second at-bat of the inning with a single just out of reach of the diving shortstop to plate two more Saints and give the home team a 9-0 lead. After a walk to load the bases again, Morrison got his second infield hit of the inning to drive in Airich, and a throwing error brought Brisson to the plate for a nine run inning and an 11-0 Saints lead.

Solid pitching dominated until the bottom of the fourth when Creston Warner took a fastball and sailed it over the left field fence. The two-out long ball brought Oster to the plate and gave the Saints a 2-0 lead.

The Saints continued the onslaught in the sixth inning as Daniel Petitti singled home Oster to extend the lead to 12-0.

The Wolves would add a pair of runs of runs on one hit and a key error to get on the board and make it a 12-2 game.

Don Brice (3-0) picked up the win as he tossed six innings of three-hit ball while only walking one. The Wolves’ Cody Gossett gets the loss as he allowed seven hits and seven in four and 2/3 innings.

North Georgia (19-12, 8-4 PBC) returns to action at Augusta State on Saturday in a key Peach Belt Conference series starting at 12:30 pm.
