SAINTS ROLL PAST EMORY 10-1
Andre Airich collects three hits and drives in two runs
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University pushed four runs across in the sixth and five in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie run away with a 10-1 win over Emory University here late Tuesday night.
The Saints (27-17) jumped on the board first in the third thanks to a key error by the Eagles center-fielder Zander Sotiriou. A two out rally was started by Airich, who beat out a throw for in-field single. Justin Rickett then hit a routine ball into the dark night in shallow center, but Sotiriou dropped the ball and Airich raced all the way around from first to score for a 1-0 lead.
Emory (29-6) came right back in the fourth and got a double from Dan Molner just out of reach of a diving Kevin Morrison to plate David Hissey and tie the game 1-1. The scoring continued in the bottom half of the inning with a lead off double in the gap to left-center by Morrison.
With the score tied heading to the bottom of the sixth, the Saints exploded for four runs. Emory walked the bases loaded before a wild pitch brought Morrison to the plate for a 2-1 lead. Sacrifice flies by Brisson and Rickett put a lid on the four run inning and gave the Saints a 5-1 lead.
In the seventh, the Saints went right back to work, putting a five spot on the board and running away with a 10-1 lead. Brad Hall got the scoring started with double down the left field line that which found its way to the fence and brought Morrison and Anders Oster across home plate. George then singled up the middle to plate Hall, before Airich double to left-center to plate two more runs and complete a five-run seventh.
Garrett Lussi (4-1) picked up the win going two innings giving up one hit while strikeout one. Scott Widyn got the loss as he started the sixth inning and never recorded an out, as he walked three.
The Saints will return to the diamond as they host Peach Belt rival Francis Marion in a weekend series starting with a double-header Saturday, April 21 at 1 pm.
