NORTH GEORGIA FALLS SHORT AGAINST WEST ALABAMA
Justin Rickett hits his fourth homerun in the loss

Livingston, AL – North Georgia College & State University fell short in their bid to take the series from the University of West Alabama, falling 2-1 at Tartt Field Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers got to North Georgia starter Zach Black (0-1), scoring a run in each the second and third innings.

The Saints, however, struck back in the seventh when senior third baseman Justin Rickett hit his fourth homerun of the season on a 0-1 changeup.  The ball carried over the left centerfield fence to cut into the lead.

North Georgia had their chances all afternoon, including in the sixth inning when they had the bases loaded. Unfortunately they were unable to get the tying run across the plate.

Tres Evans led West Alabama at the plate, as he went 3-for-3 on the afternoon.

For North Georgia, freshman second baseman Andre Airich went 2-for-3 on the afternoon with a double to break up the no-hit bid of West Alabama’s Noel Baca III in the fifth inning.

Baca (1-1) went 7 1/3 innings of work for the Tigers, giving up one run and scattering eight hits.  He recorded eight strikeouts and walked two.

Black, the hard-luck loser, went 6 2/3 innings and scattered eight hits.  He allowed two runs, only one of which was earned.  He walked two and struck out four.

North Georgia (2-4) returns to action this weekend as they travel to USC Aiken for a three-game series to open conference play.
