BULLDOGS TOPPLE SAINTS 9-5
Dahlonega, Ga. – Barton College won the second game of the series using six unearned runs and defensive pitching by Chris Hill to defeat the Saints 9-5.

North Georgia (14-10) was the first to score in the bottom of third. Senior Brian Lauderdale singled and then stole second to give the Saints a runner in scoring position. Senior Dusty Tate singled up the middle to bring Lauderdale in to score. Senior Justin Rickett followed suit and his hit allowed Tate to cross the plate putting the Saints up 2-0. However, the Bulldogs (13-10) answered in the top of the fourth. Bulldog junior Wes Miller singled into left field bringing in Barton’s first run of the game. Catcher David Bunn singled to earn an RBI and tie the game 2-2.
In the top of the fifth, Saint pitcher Tom Bradley struggled to find the zone and Barton took full advantage of the situation. Bradley loaded the bases and Bulldog Miller singled through the right side to bring in two runs. Jonathan Dollar singled to left which enabled two more runs to score before the inning was closed. Leading off for the Saints, freshman Josh Tate knocked a deep hit to right field for a triple. Shortstop Anders Oster doubled to bring in Tate and a bunt from Lauderdale placed runners on both corners. A single by D. Tate and interference call on Lauderdale tallied an out and kept runners on the corners. Rickett singled to bring in Oster and place the Saints within two.

To start the sixth, Bulldogs Eric McInerny and Tyler Petty scored the first two earned runs of the game. In the next inning, Bulldog Dollar singled, then a sacrifice fly by Bunn and single by Travis Holloman brought Dollar in and put BC up 9-4. In the eighth, Saint relief pitcher James Wilson replaced Dustin Wellborn to stop the offense of the Bulldogs.
In the bottom of the eighth, Creston Warner launched a home run into left field to get the Saint’s offense started and bring the game to 9-5. Catcher Erik Good doubled off a line drive to left-center field. Bulldog pitcher Jason Evans hit Kyle Potts to put the Saints on first and second. Evans pitched a third of the inning before being replaced by freshman Brandon Brinson, who was able to halt the Saint’s offensive momentum and secure the victory for the Bulldogs.
Bulldog pitcher Hill (4-2) earned the win after pitching seven innings and giving up only four runs. Saint pitcher Bradley (3-1) received the loss but added five strikeouts to his record. The final game of the series between the Saints and Bulldogs will begin Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
