#22 SAINTS TAKE DOUBLE HEADER FROM CHARGERS

Dahlonega, Ga. – #22 North Georgia College & State University swept the University of Alabama-Huntsville this afternoon in a double header at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.

Game 1

Scoring multiple runs in four different innings, the Saints (35-10) won the first game 12-8. The Chargers (9-16) put two runs on the board in the first inning off of a homer from senior designated hitter Trai Meadows (Hartselle, Ala.). North Georgia responded in the bottom of the first with four runs. An RBI double from senior designated hitter Kevin Bulger (Snellville, Ga.) put the first run on the board followed by a two RBI double from freshman left fielder Eric Good (Dahlonega, Ga.). Junior catcher Brad Poitevint (Dothan, Ala.) knocked in the final run of the inning to put the Saints up 4-2.

UAH tied the game with a run in the third and sixth innings, but a three run sixth inning capped of by a two run homer from junior short stop Kyle Potts (Jefferson, Ga.) gave the Saints the lead for good. Five insurance runs scored in the seventh and eighth inning sealed the victory for North Georgia.

Sophomore reliever Michael Whiting (Gainesville, Ga.) picked up the win after going four innings of relief and scattering two hits and striking out five. Junior closer Joseph Hardigree (Hull, Ga.) picked up his second save of the season with one and one-third innings of relief.

Chargers reliever Troy Mitchell (Elkmont, Ala.) took the loss after throwing one and two-thirds of an innings and allowing three earned runs off of five hits.

Game 2

Offense was abundant for both sides as North Georgia pulled out a 9-7 win in their final at-bat. The Saints jumped out to a 5-3 after the first inning, but UAH tied the game in the second inning off of a sacrifice single from freshman right fielder B.J. Cranford (Ashville, Ala.) and a score off of wild pitch by senior second baseman David Pressley (Hartselle, Ala.). A single in the third inning from junior catcher Brian Nash (Killen, Ala.) scored another run and put the Chargers up 6-5.

North Georgia responded in the bottom of the third and went up 7-6 off of a couple of singles from Potts and junior second baseman Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.). UAH tied the game once again in the fifth inning off of a sacrifice fly from Pressley.

In the bottom half of the sixth inning, sophomore third baseman Justin Rickett (Cumming, Ga.) began a rally with a lead off walk and later scored off of a triple from senior right fielder Richie Daigle (Alpharetta, Ga.). Good singled to left field to score Daigle and give North Georgia a two run lead heading into the top of the seventh inning.

Hardigree pitched a solid inning of relief to close out the ball game and pick up his second save of the evening. Freshman reliever Tom Bradley (Dacula, Ga.) won his second game of the season after pitching two innings of shutout ball and scattering one hit. Sophomore reliever Jordan Steele (Athens, Ala.) took the loss after pitching the seventh inning and allowing two runs off of two hits.

The Saints will take to the field again this weekend as they host Brewton-Parker for a three game conference series. The first game is this Friday beginning at 7:00 p.m. UAH will take the field again this weekend as well as they face Lincoln Memorial for a double header on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
