NORTH GEORGIA POUNDS SOUTHERN WESLEYAN, 20-3
Dahlonega, Ga. - Seventh ranked North Georgia College & State University had an offensive explosion this afternoon as they defeated Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) opponent Southern Wesleyan University 20-3 at the North Georgia Baseball Complex.
The Warriors (8-12, 2-11 SSAC) got going in the first inning off a solo homerun by freshman shortstop Davey Blackburn (Tuscaloosa, AL). North Georgia (17-9, 6-7 SSAC) wasted no time and answered back putting five runs on the board in the first inning. In fourth, the Saints bats were on fire as they scored 8 runs off of four hits. North Georgia went on to add one run in the fifth and six more in the sixth to cap off the scoring.
Junior infielder Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.) went 4-for-5 with 1 RBI and junior outfielder Ryan Gurley (Jefferson, Ga.) went 3-for-4 from the plate with 4 RBIs. First baseman Brett Leja (Miami, Fla.) added 2 RBIs with 2 hits in 3 at-bats.
Freshman starting pitcher Tom Bradley (Dacula, Ga.) got the win for North Georgia after pitching the complete seven innings. Bradley struck out three while scattering five hits. Sophomore starting pitcher Nick Conner (Central, SC) took the loss for the Warriors.
The two teams will face off again on Friday at 3:00 for game two of the three game series in Dahlonega.
