After the Saints (20-9) scored a run in the second inning, the Redhawks (7-10) put a run on the board in the top of the fourth after freshman right fielder Cliff Hardy (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) singled up the middle to tie the game 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, North Georgia had two outs, the bases loaded, and one run in when junior first baseman Brett Leja (Miami, Fla.) doubled to right center to clear the bases for three RBI’s and give the Saints a 5-1 lead. Leja singled again to right center in the seventh inning to score his fourth RBI of the game. North Georgia got some insurance in the eighth inning after junior second baseman Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.) hit his third home run of the year with one runner on to give the Saints a 8-1 lead heading into the ninth inning.
MMC rallied in the ninth after Hardy led off with a single to center field and latter scored off of a couple of errors. Senior pinch hitter Matt Standridge (Trinity, Ala.) scored on an unassisted put out, but sophomore reliever Chris Synan (Martinez, Ga.) forced the final ground out to end the game and give North Georgia the win. |
