NGCSU AND BERRY SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Patrick Guillory tossed a complete game and Mike Smith blasted a two-run home run as Berry College defeated No. 7 North Georgia 5-2 in the opening game of Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at William R. Bowdoin field in Mount Berry Saturday. North Georgia won the second game 8-3.

Guillory tossed seven innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out five batters and walked one to earn the victory and improve to 3-0 on the season.

Berry collected seven hits in the first game, two each by Tyler Driskell and Jack Cash. Smith's home run was his second of the season, and came in a pinch hitting role Saturday.

North Georgia 's Richie Daigle collected three of the team's six hits in the first game. Saints starter Jason Willard was tagged with his first loss of the year, dropping to 5-1 overall. Willard allowed five earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four Vikings.

In the second game, North Georgia collected 11 hits and six walks in forcing Berry to use six pitchers. Justin Rickett was 3-for-4 for the Saints, while teammate Erik Good was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI.

Driskell led Berry with the bat in the second game, going 3-for-4. Berry had 10 hits.

Ryan Garmon (2-0) earned the win with 4.2 innings of relief work, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Berry starter Jeremy Cameron (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs in one-third of an inning.
