 #7 NORTH GEORGIA CRUISES PAST #18 AUBURN MONTGOMERY 18-7

Dahlonega, Ga. – Scoring 9 runs in the third inning, seventh ranked North Georgia College & State University cruised past Southern States Athletic Conference opponent and 18th ranked Auburn University Montgomery 18-7 Friday afternoon at the NGCSU Baseball Complex.

The Saints went up 1-0 in the first inning when Justin Rickett (Cumming, Ga.) singled to center field and drove in third baseman Kevin Bulger (Snellville, Ga.). North Georgia put four more runs on the board in the second inning, including the first of two homeruns of the afternoon by senior Richie Daigle (Alpharetta, Ga.). The Saints bats exploded in the third inning when they added nine additional runs and took a 14-0 lead.

Auburn Montgomery remained scoreless until the fourth inning when they placed five runs on the board. Senators’ shortstop Josh Forbus (Montgomery, Al.) began the inning with a solo homerun and AUM went on to score four additional runs.

North Georgia added two more runs in the fourth inning as well when Bulger homered to bring in Brian Lauderdale (Roswell, Ga.) and put the Saints up 16-5.

The Senators would score their two final runs of the game in the fifth inning when catcher Britt Clayton (Tallassee, Al.) homered and drove in Will Starr (Andalusia, Al.).

The Saints would go on to end the game in the seventh inning when a two-run homerun blast by Daigle put North Georgia up 18-7.

Michael Whiting (Gainesville, Ga.) picked up the win after going three and one-third innings in relief for North Georgia (27-9, 12-7 SSAC). Whiting faced 16 batters and improved to 4-0 for the season. AUM starting pitcher Drew Danner (Geneva, Al.) was tagged with the loss for the Senators (17-16, 11-8 SSAC).

The two teams will meet again on the diamond on Saturday in a SSAC doubleheader beginning at 12:00 noon in Dahlonega.
