SSAC RELEASES 2005 BASEBALL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Dahlonega, Ga. – The 17th ranked North Georgia College & State University baseball team will be the second seed in this week's Southern States Athletic Conference tournament hosted by Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
The Saints, 46-12 overall and 24-9 in the SSAC, will take on Southern Polytechnic State University in the first round on the tournament on Wednesday at Olympic Field at noon. North Georgia brings the most high-powered offense and top-pitching unit into the tournament this year. The Saints lead the conference with a .346 team batting average, .507 slugging percentage, 654 hits, 501 RBI's, 555 runs, and 47 home runs. North Georgia's pitching staff also leads the SSAC with a 3.16 ERA, 452.2 innings pitched, and 437 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a conference low .235 batting average.
Sixth ranked Lee University took the top spot in the tournament after winning the SSAC in their first year with the conference. The Flames posted a 43-9 overall record and a 29-4 record in conference. LU will play Faulkner University, who took the eighth seed, Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Georgia Southwestern State University took the third seed in the tournament after compiling a 27-19 overall record and a 22-11 SSAC record. They will play the sixth seed, Brewton-Parker College, at 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon.
Berry College is the fourth seed with a 34-18 record and 20-13 conference mark and will face off against Auburn University Montgomery at 12:00 p.m. at Cleveland State.
The double elimination tournament will end on Sunday at Olympic Field with the championship game to be played at 2:00 p.m.
