Bruce Howerton was named Vice President for Institutional Advancement on July 1, 2002. He heads the Office of Advancement, which includes the fund raising program, the alumni relations office, public information and publications and the North Georgia College & State University Foundation. His expertise is planned and deferred giving. He came to North Georgia after twenty-two years with the Medical College of Georgia.

Bruce has been directly involved with building college endowments through solicitation of major gifts, primarily through donor financial and estate planning strategies. He has significant experience with the charitable techniques of charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder annuity trusts, charitable remainder unitrusts, gifts of securities, gifts of real estate and bequests in wills. He received a 2000 CASE Circle of Excellence Award for Educational Fund Raising.

Bruce is married to Barbara Howerton, who is on the Biology faculty at North Georgia. They have three grown children and four grandchildren. He enjoys golfing, gardening and reading in addition to his church and community activities.
