FAQs About Giving to NGCSU
WHY SHOULD I GIVE - AREN'T WE SUPPORTED BY STATE TAX DOLLARS?
Yes, but a smaller portion of our budget comes from tax dollars each year, and we rely on tuition, fees, grants and private contributions to provide the rest. Your gifts enable the Foundation to provide much needed additional funding for scholarships, the arts, athletics, faculty and staff development, equipment and land purchases, and many other worthwhile programs. Without private gifts, these enhancements would require significant increases in tuition and student fees.
WITH HOPE SCHOLARSHIPS, WHY DO YOU NEED SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ?
HOPE scholarships provide tuition assistance for most of our entering students from Georgia. However, HOPE has limited eligibility - not all students qualify, and many students become ineligible before graduation. The HOPE scholarship pays tuition and most fees and a limited book allowance; room and board are not included. Also, HOPE scholarships are not available to graduate students, out-of-state students or international students. In addition to financial aid, private scholarships allow NGCSU to recognize academic, leadership, artistic and athletic achievement that is not rewarded by HOPE.
In previous years, this has been known as the Annual Fund or the Loyalty Fund - now it has a new identity! It is the annual fund raising program through which the NGCSU Foundation raises money in support of the teaching, research and service needs of North Georgia College & State University. The North Georgia Fund provides valuable assistance to programs for which state funds are either unavailable or inadequate.
The Foundation is a charitable, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, responsible for soliciting, receiving, recording, managing and disbursing all private contributions for NGCSU. The Foundation's sole purpose is to support the advancement of the university.
HOW IS MY GIFT USED?
YOU DECIDE! The Foundation encourages unrestricted gifts, which allow the President and the Foundation trustees to use the money to address the greatest needs of students and faculty and staff, and to respond as special opportunities arise. However, you may restrict your gift to a specific school or department, a specific scholarship, or any of the various fund accounts maintained by the Foundation.
