Computer Lab Print Management
Overview
North Georgia College & State University has been keeping statistics on printing in the labs since Spring Semester 1999. Analysis of the data shows a continued rise in costs. With decreasing budgets for NGCSU and the University System of Georgia during the past three years, it is no longer viable for the campus to provide free printing. However, the Student Government Association in cooperation with the Student Technology Fee Committee has arranged funding to provide 500 pages per semester for each student.
How will it work?
Students will be prompted with a print job billing box each time they choose to print. The system will notify the user of the number of pages to be printed along with his/her current balance. The user will then have the opportunity to print or cancel the job. The box will show the 400 pages in currency format. (500 pages x $.05 = $25.00 balance) The balance will decrease at a rate of $.05 per page. The balance shown in the box will be the amount remaining, not an amount owed.
Will unused pages roll over to the next semester?
No.
What if a printer problem occurs?
If your print job fails to print correctly due to a malfunction of the printer, report the problem to the lab assistant or your instructor when in a classroom lab. You will need to complete a Print Account Refund form to have the pages added back to your account. The lab assistant or your instructor will have this form. It is your responsibility to submit it to the IIT Help Desk for review and remediation.
What if I need to print more than 500 pages?
To add more pages to your print account, visit a Revalue Station and follow the step-by-step instructions. Revalue Stations are located in the Student Center (bottom floor, outside the Cyber Café) and HNS 152.
Will the printing system be everywhere?
Currently the following locations will be controlled by managed printing: DH 108, DH 111, HNS 147, HNS 152, Nix 221, NOC 109, NOC 208, NOC 210, NOC 211, Rogers 201, Cyber Café, Library lab.
Is there anyway that I can reduce the size of a printed document before I print it?
It is always advisable to run Print Preview prior to printing a document. Some Web pages may print more than is readily apparent. Print Preview will give you an idea of how many pages are going to be printed. All the printers will be configured to process RAW print jobs. This will reduce any waste inherent in some print spoolers. PowerPoint files can be printed with multiple slides per page, reducing the size of the document, in many cases, by 75 percent. If you need help making your print jobs as efficient as possible, please ask a lab assistant for help.
Who do I contact if I have questions about my account?
Please direct all questions and comments to the IIT Help Desk located in Dunlap Hall, room 108A. The Help Desk office hours are 7:30 a.m.– 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m.– 5 p.m., Friday. The IIT Help Desk phone number is 706-864-1922.
Printing FAQs
-
Always click on Print Preview before you print! Make sure you know what your print job will look like on the screen before sending it to the printer.
-
Send a print job only once. Since your job is sent to a print queue shared by others, your document may take several minutes to print.
-
If the printer is out of paper or toner, report the problem to the lab assistant or your instructor when in a classroom lab.
-
It is your responsibility to keep your password secure and to Log Off when leaving a computer. Failure to do so may result in others printing on your account. You are responsible for all printing that occurs on your account.
