How to Auto Delete Unwanted E-mail in GroupWise Client

This rule, when properly configured, is useful for automating the task of mail managment; however, if GroupWise rules are misconfigured, they can cause many unintentional consequences that could include the loss of incoming e-mail.

From the Tools menu, choose Rules to bring up the Rules window.
1. Choose New to open the New Rule window.
2. Type: Delete Spam (or any other name you prefer) in the Rule Name text box.
3. "When event is" should be set to New Item and items Received should be checked.
4. Select Mail under Item Types.
5. Click Define Conditions.
6. Click on the pick-list arrow of the first blank box and select the most effective filter for your messages. (See Filter examples below)
7. In the second blank box, type the specific item the filter is to search and delete. If you want to add another condition, change the button that says "End" to "Or." Repeat these steps until you have a new line for each word. Leave the last button of the last line as "End."
There is a limit of 24 conditions per rule. Therefore, if your list of words is greater than 12 (12 for Subject plus the same 12 for Message) it will require a separate rule. Rules get processed sequentially.
Note: It is very important for this to exactly match the unwanted e-mail for it to work. You don't want to match it to other e-mail that may also get deleted.
8. Click OK, when the filter is in place.
9. Click Add Action. Select Empty Item from the Menu list.
10 Click Save.
In the Rules window, your newly added rule should now be visible. Click once on the rule name to highlight it and then click RUN. You should receive a message stating 'Rule Execution complete.' Click OK. Click Close. The rule is now enabled. All matches to the filter criteria will immediately be sent to your Trash folder.
If you should make changes to your rules then you will need to SAVE them and then select the RUN option once again to enable the update.
Filter Examples:
Filtering on From would block all future messages from one person. This is helpful when repeated requests to get removed from a mailing list is ignored.

. Filtering on Subject would delete all future message that contain a specific word or title. Offensive e-mail can be automatically removed with this option.

Filtering on Attachments would delete all future message with that file type. This is a popular way to catch a virus attachment that could harm your machine.
