Frequently Asked Questions

Class Size: 24 students are accepted each year
Curriculum:

The Small Group PBL Curriculum method of teaching is used. It demands a strong, mature, self-directed learner. Find references and read them before interviewing with us.

Program Length:

Nine consecutive semesters across three academic years including three summer semesters. Thirty-three graduate courses in sequence with a required research-project proposal defense.

Internships:

Students may be assigned to clinics in any number of sites in the US.  Students may travel out of state for clinical assignments.

Degree: The entry-level DPT is awarded by the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at completion of the program.
Residency:

As a member of the State University System of Georgia we recruit and admit Georgia residents.  We entertain applications from non-residents who are referred to us by our out-of-state clinical faculty.

Specialization:

Clinical specialties are viewed as advanced competencies and are therefore not a part of our curriculum. We have board certified specialists as faculty and more than 340 clinical facilities affiliated with our program to provide the best "GENERALIST" education possible. We are committed to practice in general medical/health institutions.

Costs:

Approximately $33,385 for books, tuition and fees, professional fees, supplies, health, uniforms, and clinical education experiences should be budgeted for the entire three-year program. Non-residents may expect to add an additional $20,270/year for tuition.  These estimates are based upon tuition rate at the Medical College of Georgia, required fees at NGCSU, typical costs during clinical education experiences remote from Dahlonega, and do not include room and board.

Location:

The NGCSU Physical Therapy program is located in Dahlonega, Georgia in the southern portion of the Blue Ridge mountains just 12 miles from the Appalachian Trail and 60 miles from Atlanta.  The Physical Therapy Graduate Program is housed in the University's newest structure, a 4-story state-of-the-art teaching facility with programmatically dedicated office, teaching, laboratory, and outpatient clinical space totaling 17,000 square feet.  NGCSU enrollment is approximately 5,000 students, including 650 military cadets and nearly 600 graduate students.

Dahlonega has a population of approximately 5,000 residents.  Our faculty and students easily walk to nearby restaurants, shops, banks, and churches.  The campus is safe, clean, and friendly, with the excitement and entertainment of Atlanta only a short drive away.
