Research/Special InterestsMy research interests focus upon elucidating the phylogenetic (genealogical) relationships of freshwater fishes using DNA sequences and to a lesser extent morphology. Presently I am studying the evolutionary relationships of the goodeids of the Mesa Central of Mexico. At a broader level, my interests include biogeography, the systematic relationships of teleost fishes, the factors affecting the species richness of groups (speciation and extinction), and the documentation and conservation of fish diversity.
Personal InformationMy research program has the benefit of requiring time in the field. I have been on research/collecting trips to the high plateau of central Mexico (I lived in Mexico for a year), the eastern swamp forests of Nicaragua, and the Amazonian rain forest. Additionally I have spent time aboard commercial and governmental vessels on the Laurentian Great Lakes. My personal web
page has an assortment of pictures of the fam!
