Here's your chance to be published in an academic journal right here at NGCSU.

Honores: The NGCSU Journal of Undergraduate Research, which is sponsored by the NGCSU Honors Program and the NGCSU Foundation, is accepting submissions for publication in volume 9. The submission deadline is Friday, April 4, 2008.

Volume 9 will appear during Fall Semester 2008.  Previous issues have featured articles by students in Biology, Computer Science, History, Language, Mathematics, Fine Arts, Psychology, Sociology and English. We would like to see works submitted by students in other areas, as well.

Each student who submits an article needs to consult with a faculty member in preparing their submission.  Please review the journal Mission Statement, which follows; and see the Journal Submission Form, which must be completed for the submission to be considered.  Selection of articles for publication is done by a faculty Editorial Board.

The Journal will provide a forum for undergraduates to publish results of their research, share in a larger community of scholarly inquiry and raise awareness of professional research and writing standards.  After review of submissions by a faculty editorial board, the Journal will publish the best work submitted by undergraduate students, which may include, but not be limited to, the following:

• results of lab research
• critical analysis of a text
• controlled social science study
• original historical research
• problem-solving study
• analytical essay/"think piece"

The articles must represent work done while enrolled as an undergraduate at NGCSU.  This includes currently enrolled students as well as those who have graduated in the calendar year prior to the submission deadline.  (May, August or December 2007)

• Students will consult with an NGCSU faculty member in preparing their articles for submission (see Submission Form)
• Articles should be no more than twenty pages in length, typed in 12 pt font, double-spaced, with 1" margins, and printed on one side of the paper.  Articles should be thoroughly proof-read and spell-checked by authors prior to submission
• The article should exhibit a standard citation style from the appropriate professional journal
• Articles must be submitted in print and on disk in Microsoft Word.  Any illustrations or graphics created using software such as Photo Shop or Illustrator should be saved in jpg, tiff or eps format
