Living Our Values Within Our Organizational Culture |
|
The North Georgia values of Courage, Integrity, Service, Loyalty, Respect, Truth, and Wisdom are all reflected in our restructuring process in the School of Education. Faced three years ago with the need for change and the opportunity to change, we restructured our school so that the primary decision making points are located at the program level. The position of department head was eliminated, and program area coordinators assumed a much greater degree of authority, responsibility and accountability. We are on the long road to greater faculty empowerment and a serious re-examination of the ways that we traditionally "do business" in the School of Education and with our constituents. The faculty have been willing to take rather large and important risks because of an environment of support, trust, and respect. We have learned much along the way and have quite a distance to go, especially as we face the opportunities of increasing and exciting diversity in our schools, the growth of globalization, and the challenges of limited resources. The four leadership themes and the institutional values have served us well this past year, and we believe they will continue to do so as the School of Education continues on its most exciting trajectory. |
