Teacher Education - Health & Physical Education - SOE - Message from the Dean

Educating Engaged Citizens

Our graduate programs in Teacher Education, Health and Physical Education, and Educational Leadership are under continuous review, with new program revisions being implemented Summer of 2008. These changes reflect our efforts to ensure that our students are engaged professionals who provide leadership for their agencies and schools. All of our graduate level programs have field and action research components that involve students in leadership positions in their professions. For example, our educational leadership preparation programs are standards-based and performance-based, placing students into active leadership positions at their place of work to demonstrate their leadership competence. Similarly, at the undergraduate level, all of our majors complete an 80-hour service learning project working with students or clients in at-risk situations. Additionally, our Athletic Training Education majors and preservice teachers complete approximately 900 hours of field placements, a portion of which require that they assume active leadership positions within their placement sites and the surrounding community.
