Education

Alice V. Sampson received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia where she studied Middle Grades Education. After teaching sixth grade for eight years, she attended graduate school fulltime, earning a Ph.D. in Middle Grades Education, with an emphasis on community and school relationships, rural education, and teacher education. Her research methodologies include photo elicitation and photo essays. Currently, Sampson is on special assignment to direct NGCSU's Appalachian Studies Center.

Personal Information

Born in Baltimore , Maryland , Sampson now lives in Dahlonega, Georgia with her husband Joel, who is the executive director of the Dahlonega Downtown Development. Their son, Asa, is a technology transfer agent for Research Triangle Institute and lives in Raleigh, NC.  Her hobbies include photographing decaying structures, collecting community songbooks, listening to bluegrass music, crocheting, writing, and wandering around the town square.
