Areas A-E of the core are no different for
Teacher Education students than they are for students in other
programs, except that middle grades math and science students
must follow the area A and D requirements for mathematics and
science. The
catalog outlines requirements and acceptable courses for
those areas.
Because all teacher education programs require
Human Growth and Development (PSYC 2103) for admission,
students are advised to consider taking the pre-requisite
course, Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 1101) in area E. If
your foreign language background is not recent, this is
particularly important so that you can use the first semester
of foreign language in area F in place of psychology.
Area F is unique to each major. In the secondary
programs, students must complete area F for their major in
addition to Introduction to Education (EDUC 2001),
Introduction to Special Education (EDUC 2002) and Human Growth
and Development (PSYC 2103). In addition they must meet
the state technology requirement, either by completing CSCI
1200 - Technology and Learning or passing the PSC technology
exemption test (available through the NGCSU Testing Office).
