Health & Physical Education
Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program
(Initial Certification)
One way to get an initial teaching certificate in Georgia is by affiliating with a college or university's teacher education program. Once you have completed a planned program of study, the institution recommends you for a certificate, and must guarantee that you will perform satisfactorily. If North Georgia College & State University is the recommending institution, we are concerned that you understand students of the age level you want to teach, that you understand how schools work and how to structure instruction and manage classrooms. You must have a sound grasp of the content you will be teaching. Consequently, there are grade point average requirements and two state mandated tests required. You will need practice in the classroom, and we will need to evaluate your progress there. If you have a bachelor's degree in physical education from an accredited undergraduate institution and have passed both GACE I and GACE II, it is possible that no additional health and physical education content courses will be required. If you have an undergraduate degree in something other than physical education, your transcripts will be analyzed and necessary health & physical education content courses will be added to your required program of study. Those courses will probably be undergraduate courses taught only during the daytime. Some graduate courses might apply for initial certification. For more information about this program and admission information, visit
