The culmination of the student's formal education is an internship experience in an area of career interest. The internship program is designed to provide quality educational opportunities along with quality adult supervision to assist the student in gaining valuable experience in the profession (see Internship Program page). During this period of advanced training, students are strongly encouraged to become certified as a part of their professional preparation. Those students that are interested in becoming professionally certified are directed to several professional organizations that provide certification options and specific requirements for each certification.

Careers in the Exercise Science area have dramatically increased in recent years. The profession has evolved to the point of providing tremendous diversity in career options. An extensive listing can be found on the Career Opportunities page. Also, the Exercise Science Links page can be a valuable tool in assisting you understand the depth and breadth of the profession.
The Exercise Science emphasis area is not an open option for a degree (i.e., program application and approved admission are required). Students wishing to enter the program must submit an application for admission to the NGCSU School of Education. All admission criteria, requirements, and an application form can be found on the Admissions page. If you are interested in changing your major to Physical Education (Exercise Science) or you are transferring to North Georgia College & State University from another institution, please contact the School of Education - Admissions at (706) 867-3271 for a brief evaluation of your application.
