Mike Cottrell School of Business
Marketing Major

Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders (AMA Definition, 2004). Marketing is about consumers and strategy, both inside and outside the firm.  In today's ultra competitive business environment, the ability to understand customer needs and produce products and services to meet those needs is the province of marketers and is absolutely necessary for a firm's survival.  Leaders of these firms and organizations must have the ability to correctly assess the rapid changes occurring in the global information-based economy or face failure.

Few professions offer the broad range of opportunities open to the marketing graduate. If you like to think quickly and comprehensively, work individually and in team settings, and are sincerely interested in understanding the human forces driving increasingly global markets, the role of technology in consumption, customer relationship management, strategic decision making, advertising planning, market research, integrated marketing communications, pricing, logistics, public relations, promotion, e-commerce, retailing, international markets, professional sales, and business-to-business relationships, then the marketing program at NGCSU will keep you informed and in touch with the latest advancements in marketing and related research.

Marketing faculty at NGCSU use a case study approach to learning mixed with traditional methods and integrate current issues, marketing research, and technology into the classroom and course requirements.  A collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) is an active organization on campus that provides professional resources, networking opportunities, and a chance to interact one-on-one with our marketing faculty, and hear from industry speakers.  After completing an original marketing plan, marketing graduates are uniquely positioned to provide the critical information essential to this assessment.  Moreover, NGCSU's marketing graduates regularly earn high profile positions and have enhanced opportunities to advance into top management or graduate studies.
